Announces New Executive Director

Cherokee Ranch and Castle Foundation (CRCF) is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Greg Vigil as its Executive Director. CRCF is confident that Mr. Vigil’s proven leadership and management experience will enable him to lead the organization effectively into the future.
Mr. Vigil’s background and experience make him an ideal candidate for this role. He previously served on the CRCF Board of Directors and has been acting as Interim Executive Director for the last several months. Prior to his current role, Mr. Vigil held significant positions in the oil and gas industry where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and management acumen.
Throughout his career, Mr. Vigil has demonstrated a strong commitment to nonprofit organizations, particularly in strategic planning and governance. Mr. Vigil’s education and community ties further enhance his qualifications. He is a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines and has been a long-time resident of Douglas County.
Mr. Vigil’s appointment comes after an extensive nationwide search and thorough evaluation of numerous candidates.
CRCF Board President Jeff Battin expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, stating, “We are thrilled that Mr. Vigil will join CRCF and collaborate closely with the Board to guide the foundation through its next phase of growth. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Castle, and we eagerly anticipate celebrating this significant milestone at our annual Waterloo gala on June 20, 2026.”
Notable Achievements in Stewardship and Sustainability
- Professionalization in management of the Tweet Kimball Collection
- Prioritization of Conservation of paintings and objects in the Tweet Kimball Collection
- Implementation of a USDA EQIP conservation plan for soil regeneration and rangeland management
- Advancements in genetics development as a leading Santa Gertrudis seed stock cattle breeder
- Protection of wildlife habitats and continued support of the CRCF Bluebird Nest Box Project
- Continued support of the 4-H and FFA Livestock Education Grant with the Douglas County Fair Foundation
A Community Cultural Resource Hosting Thousands Annually
- Producing cultural performances featuring traditionally favored and new performing artists
- Creating diverse and inclusive events with prominent partners, authors, and scholars
- Architectural Study of drawings of Christopher Wren featuring international speakers
- Fine Arts Study of artist Joellyn Duesberry, yielding works gifted from her estate
- Presenting the history of art and objects collections through Castle tours and events
- CRCF Science Institute ongoing researching, publishing, and providing national presentations
